Khayrhaye’s goals are to collect, preserve, and showcase historical and cultural artifacts that represent Somali heritage, including traditional crafts, oral histories, and literature. It’s important to protect endangered aspects of Somali culture, such as traditional storytelling, dance, poetry, and languages (e.g., the Maay and Maxaa dialects). We document oral histories from elders, artists, and community leaders to ensure the continuity of knowledge about Somali customs, history, and experiences. Khayrhaye develops and presents both permanent and temporary exhibitions that cover diverse aspects of Somali culture, history, and diaspora experiences. We host guest lectures on Somali history, Islamic traditions, arts, literature, and the contributions of the Somali diaspora worldwide. Our objective is to encourage and support research on Somali history, culture, and the Somali diaspora through partnerships with knowledge keepers.
